Why does my body ache?
Have you been waking up to aches and pains in the morning and just don’t feel like getting out of bed? Don’t worry, we’re here to help.
Aches and pains in the morning are not only uncomfortable, but can also limit our daily activities. A non-active lifestyle, lack of exercise, poor nutrition, or an injury can all contribute to aches and pains.
According to our resident therapist, Pn. Sarimah, the morning pain is often located in the neck and back area, although you may also experience pain in your legs, arms, and shoulders along with some stiffness.
Below are some of the most common reasons for your pains and aches;
- Poor sleeping positions – awkward sleeping positions, wrong type of mattress or pillow can be the most common reasons for aches in the morning.
- Inflammation – swelling and morning stiffness are more common as we age.
- Arthritis – if you’re suffering from any type of arthritic condition, pain and soreness may be more of a problem in the morning.
- Diet – excessive amounts of sugar and red meat (including fast food) could also contribute to aches and pains.
To treat these conditions we can assess your health, medical conditions and sleeping habits to find the root of the problem. You will then be provided with a unique treatment plan, which could include massages, hot and cold pack therapy and some exercises that can be practised independently.
Pn. Sarimah, advises: “As well as physical therapy, it is important to stay hydrated, drinking lots of water, eating healthy and getting enough exercise, which can help reduce aches and pains in the morning”.
